The Social Service flow chart serves as a guide for patients, both out-patient and
in-patient cases to seek proper social service assistance. Only patients with heart ailment
and peripheral vascular disorders are qualified to avail to social service assistance. Lung
surgeries can also be extended assistance but with very limited slots. Once referred to MSS,
a clerk does the preliminary orientation regarding the schedule of the interview and
presentation of MSS list of requirements. The requirements serve as guide in classifying
free or part-free treatment, both at the OPD clinic and in-patient admission, while the interview
is done by the social worker.
Documents are required to validate the information given during the interview. The earlier
they comply with these requirements, the sooner the eligibility for financial assistance is
determined. Visits may also be made by social workers to their homes and communities.
On the basis of family income and resources, the patient and social worker agree on the
amount that he can reasonably afford to pay for his treatment. His economic situation is
re-evaluated avery two years or as the need arises for possible reclassification.
Private patients may also be referred by their attending physician for social service
assistance due to unexpected prolonged medical treatment at the Intensive Care Units or
for unanticipated procedures. If found eligible for assistance, they are reclassified as
service patients. However, social service assistance starts only on the date of the referral.
This means that the patient is still liable for all his bills prior to reclassification.
